Don’t Let Business Agility Become a Meaningless Buzzword in Your Enterprise

“Business Agility” is perhaps one of the most used buzzwords in business today. Everyone wants it. Everyone needs it. But, what is business agility? And what value does it bring to your organization?

At a simplistic level, an agile enterprise possesses the ability to respond to change rapidly. The source of change can come from evolving customer needs and demands, or changes in business conditions.

While the definition may be simple, building an agile enterprise can be complicated, and there are different views on how to achieve agility in an enterprise organization.

To quickly respond to unexpected changes, all parts of your organization need to be aligned. While the roots of agile are derived in software development, building an agile enterprise requires your entire organization to collaborate on issues.

As enterprises strive to become agile, they must also manage the changing nature of how and where work gets done. More businesses support remote work opportunities as a means to attract and retain talent. In a world where your employees are everywhere, business agility becomes even more important.

If having the ability to respond to changing market conditions quickly is a crucial tenant of agile, and it requires input from all parts of your organization who are likely dispersed across the country or even globe, the right tools for collaboration are essential to becoming an agile enterprise.

According to a 2017 Deloitte trend report, 94% of business leaders surveyed believed that agility and collaboration are essential to success, but only 6% perceived themselves to be “highly agile”. The tools for collaboration today include much more than voice and email. In efforts to be more adaptable and team-centric, different organizations will adopt different ways of working utilizing video, conferencing, mobile applications, and instant messaging.
