New York, New York: Gritty, Resilient, Adaptable

In sports and in life, I’m a sucker for the underdog. As a tri-state native, I grew up rooting for the Jets, Mets, and Knicks. My favorite teams may not always win, but they persevere when others might give up. This same attitude is reflected in the people and businesses in New York City.

The tri-state area around New York City is no stranger to adversity in the 21st century. Through the COVID-19 pandemic and, as we reopen our city, citizens and businesses once again prove their grit, resilience and adaptability. In an effort to maintain and grow their businesses through this crisis, companies are accelerating the drive to digital transformation. Our network expansions in the area are laying the foundation for a new way of working that will inform how companies operate post-pandemic.

This area is the most densely populated region in the U.S. It’s home to many of the giants in retail, finance, healthcare, technology, and media and entertainment. The region has also been one of the hardest hit by the pandemic. While health care workers and first responders continue to work around the clock to save lives, businesses are struggling to deal with the economic and workforce impacts of COVID-19. For many companies, this means migrating to a digital commerce platform while others are optimizing and securing their infrastructures to support a completely remote workforce environment. The question then becomes, how do they get there?

Our customers want to know how CenturyLink can help not only during the crisis, but also in the aftermath. How can we evolve with them as their businesses transform post-COVID?

As business evolves, CIOs face some tough technology decisions.  What does that mean for their digital transformation? What about adaptive networking? How do they achieve more IT agility and connected security? What kinds of collaboration tools will help their remote workers stay connected and engaged as a unified team?

In some cases, companies are accelerating their digital transformation plans. Projects that were originally expected to take two to five years are now being implemented within weeks or months. CenturyLink has been at the forefront of partnering with companies to achieve their digital transformation objectives.

As the tri-state area reopens, the most critical factor is the safety and wellbeing of employees. Therefore, the go-forward solution is to have a greater percentage of the workforce working at home for the foreseeable future. Our customers need solutions that align with the challenges that CIOs will face as more companies adopt a hybrid network model to accommodate a virtual workforce. They need to put plans in place to help ensure their businesses continue to run efficiently and securely. This means greater bandwidth, more collaboration tools and expanded voice services.

It begins with our robust network. CenturyLink has expanded our fiber expansion in many parts of the U.S. and plans to continue this growth by bringing faster internet speed to additional businesses in several cities. For example, expansion efforts are currently in progress throughout Manhattan, Brooklyn, NY and Hartford, CT. The expansions throughout the region accelerate our ability to deliver network connectivity and services necessary to support our customers as they adapt to our current environment.
